Rated in the world's top 14 glamping sites by TripAdvisor, Kissing Gate is a quirky artsy experience on 7 acres of Nelson rural paradise. Themed around Kiwiana and NZ history, Kissing Gate nestles in a glade beside a pond. An open air settlers cottage has a lounge, kitchen, luxury bathroom, and composting toilet. The highlight of glamping is the two lovingly restored 1960s retro Kiwi caravans. Pearl is the extra lounge - styled as a 1960s diner, she was the winner of the 2013 national Beach Hop retro caravan competition. Ruby is a sumptuous boudoir, elegantly decorated in a lavish colonial theme. A bath squats on a deck over the pond while stars wheel above and frogs serenade. An outdoors fireplace is ideal for marshmallow toasting or toasty-pie cooking. Kissing Gate is surrounded by organic orchards on the property and fields with handfeedable sheep and trees/places to explore. Located just 4 minutes from Mapua seaside village - the jewel in Nelson's beach, cafe and art's hub, Kissing Gate provides easy access to the famous Great Taste Trail - a cycle route from Nelson to Abel Tasman National Park.
