How Do I Get There?
We are south of Coimbra, close to the town of Penela, near the village of Espinhal, approximately a two-hour drive from both Porto and Lisbon airports.
Coimbra is the nearest city (35 km away) with bus and train connections from both Porto and Lisbon and car rental facilities.
You will need your own transport to reach the property situated in the mountains.

View Google MapsAt O Homem Verde, your hosts aim to offer a breath of fresh air from everyday life with an exotic and very comfortable escape from the normal "back to nature" experience. It is a small, exclusive, low-impact site situated in the woodlands of Serra do Espinhal in central Portugal, offering self-catering or bed and breakfast options.
O Homem Verde is well placed in an area rich with natural wonders and cultural delights! As well as river beaches, waterfalls and caves, you will find waterparks, castles and palaces, deserted stone villages and some great wildlife, too! Take a hike or mountain bike through the hills on the on-site trails.
Hidden treasures are also to be discovered by walking or cycling the Schist Villages trails, with a visit to the eerie Buracas do Casmilo (a good trip for all, but especially for rock climbers).
Between the property and Espinhal, you can find Pedra da Ferida, a lovely 30 meter high cascade with bathable pools and picnic area.
The property is only a 5 min drive and within walking distance from the natural swimming pool of Louçainha, a natural pool safe for children and adults with water supplied by a mountain brook. During summer, the swimming pool has lifeguard supervision, as well as a café, restaurant and library where you can borrow books or newspapers for the day.
In the town of Penela, 15 minutes drive away, you can pick up the free audio guides in the tourism office for a guided tour of the castle. Nearby, you can also visit the roman ruins, caves, and windfarms.
